The Dilemma of Decision

By Bamidele, Moyo-Angel

Judges 6:36-40, Act 1:26a, Matt. 6:24.

The way you are today is a function/as a result of your decision yesterday.

Life is a composition of decisions.

One thing that I and you do every time is making decision. We make decision everyday ranging from what to wear, eat, places to go, who to be your friend, whom to marry, the Bank to Bank with e.t.c.

In spite of the difficulty in making decision, we make them everyday, at least coming for devotion every morning is a decision cos you might decide not to come.

Often time decisions are left for us. Human beings are free moral agent, an agent of choice. The Bible stated in Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call heaven and earth to record this against you that I have set before you like and death, blessing and causing… this was a left for us choice and in Matt. 7:13, a left over decision.

Simeon Peter in Matt. 19:27, Mark 10:28, peter was left over with decision.

In making decision, it is crucial for us at all point to know that deciding for Christ is the utmost decision anybody could ever make, deciding for God.

The prodigal son makes a decision; Esther makes a decision in Esther 4:16, saying if I perish, I perish. What a decision the three Jews make in Daniel 3:16-18.

It will shock you that we also make decision to a Christian.

Our lives can be changed forever by one decision. Add to that the tension of wanting to please God-of desiring to make the most of our lives for Him. No concerned Christian want to choose something other than God’s best. Is there a way to find out what God wants us to do in a particular situation?

There are many methods by which people make decision. People have tried all kinds of tactics to determine what God wants them to do.

  • Fleeces (asking God for a supernatural sign) in Judges ^6:36-40.
  • Casting of lot in Acts 1:26a.
  • Judging by circumstances
  • Opening of Bible randomly.
  • By prophecy.
  • Drawing straws (letting the length decide)
  • Dreaming (asking God for a vision or a voice)
  • Floundering (fishing everywhere for answers)
  • Sitting (procrastination)

All these are wrong methods in making decision. Then how do I make decisions?

Step I.

  • Giving your all to Christ, when you left all He takes over.

Step II

  • What am I saying about the decision I am about to make?
  • What are other people saying about the decision I am about to make?
  • What is God/the Word saying about the decision I am about to make?

Knowing that what other people are saying has little or no effect in our decision.

Step III- Consider these seven lights of decision.

  • An inward conviction.
  • Confirmation in scripture.
  • Prophetic confirmation.
  • Circumstances Evidences
  • The peace of God
  • It must glorify the name of God.

Every decision will make in life affects our destiny and life either positively or negatively. Be careful when you make decision.
